At Halloween-time, not only do people become more aware of things that go bump in the night, but many also like to decorate everything that doesn’t move. For some of these people, that means smoke machines, life-sized headstones, piped-in scary music and mechanical figures that jump out when you walk by. For others of us who live our lives on the Internet, though, decorations for Halloween take other forms entirely. We decorate our online worlds using digital art, such as Halloween cards. Digital images like this allows us to festoon word processing documents, Web sites, blogs, PowerPoint presentations and much more, which makes our time online more fun.

For those who make scrapbooks, there are even more uses for the digital images found on the Internet. There are many sites that offer great collections of free Halloween scrapbooking paper and Halloween clipart images that are so helpful for scrapbooking. Free images like this help people create who might not be able to afford it otherwise. Believe it or not, that actually helps all of us, because the more beauty and creativity there is in the world, the more we all benefit.

I love seeing all the other projects people make with free Halloween images found on the Web too. I recently ran across some fun altered art projects. These projects were built out of vintage books about Halloween for children that were unbound and rebound, with the addition of blank pages, new images, rhinestones and beads that gave them new lives as funky retro-inspired journals. I’ve also seen Halloween clip art used in jewelry. What a great use of free resources! Getting those images free really helps jewelry designers who work from home, because they usually make so little profit. Getting as many components free as possible is obviously a real bonus.

If you search online for handmade Halloween crafts, I bet you’ll find a lot more examples than I’ve given. They’re probably endless!
